SAUGUS ROTARY
PROPOSED BY LAW CHANGES 10/13/05

1) Correction: Article III Duties of Officers: 7th sentence from bottom, “senoir” to “senior”.

2) Article IV Meetings: Section 4 Regular meetings of the BOD shall be held on the second “Thursday “ (instead of Wednesday) of each month Add “prior to the weekly meeting,”

3) Article V Fees and Dues: Section 2. The membership dues shall be $125” (instead of $100) per annum Add “due on July 1 each year”.

Remove (or if retired or over 65 years of age; $50 payable semi-annually on the first day of July and January). All required international and district fees are included in dues, payable semi annually on the first day of July and January, with the understanding that $6.00 (instead of $2.75) and the appropriate amount of each semi annual payment is applied to the cost of each member’s The Rotarian magazine.

4) Article V Add Section 6:
The President (instead of the nominating committee) will appoint two Past Presidents, who are not current Board of Director members, to serve as Trustees for the Saugus Rotary Reserve Fund and whose appointments are confirmed by a majority of the BOD. Trustees shall serve for a term of “two” years (instead of three).
Funds to be disbursed by the guidelines below with a majority vote of Board of Directors and Trustees.
- Emergency funding determined by current BOD
- Provide advance funding for a major club project. Upon completion of the project the reserve fund will be replenished from current operating revenue.
- Matching funds of Foundation support requested by President and BOD.

5) Article XI Method of Electing Members:
Section 2: Remove (Senior Active, Past Service)
Honorary members Add: “A person who, by serving with distinction in the furtherance of Rotary ideals, has been elected to honorary membership of the club. An honorary member is exempt from payment of fees and dues, has no vote, and may not hold office. However, an honorary member may attend all meeting and enjoy the privileges of the club. Honorary membership terminates each year on 30 June but may by resolution be continued from year to year.
The name of a proposed candidate for Remove (any one of these three kinds of) this membership shall be submitted to the BOD in writing and the Add “ BOD shall vote on the election of this classification by a majority vote. The club will be advised of the Board’s vote at a regular meeting. The BOD in deciding this classification shall take into consideration the members’ good standing of Rotary ideals and objectives furthering the betterment of the Saugus Rotary Club.”

Remove (If not to exceed to negative votes are cast by members of the BOD in attendance at the regular or special meeting, the members or past service member of this club who qualifies for senior active membership as set forth in the constitution of this club shall automatically become a senior active member of this club, no application for election to such senior active member being required.)
